Healthy Living, Homesteading & Sharing Arbonne:

For the past 6+ years of my life, I have lived a more holistic lifestyle (inside & out).  Small-scale homesteading has become a big part of my life.  I moved from an apartment in the big city, bought an old country home, swapped my bus pass for a beater truck and took in some rescue pets. I built gardens, animals houses, joined a local eco club and had a 5-year plan on what I wanted my personal life to be about and just approached that mark recently. What was missing? My skincare, beauty, nutrition supplements and mindful practices were not where I wanted them to be. That is when I met someone (funny enough when I had my antique store) who introduced me to Arbonne. After testing their health & wellness products for over a year, I recently started sharing/selling them myself. They fit with my over all lifestyle as they are animal cruelty free, a B-corp business (which means they do their best to be planet-friendly) and they offer only vegan and gluten free (plant-based) which I love. I am a busy bee and it is really helpful for me to integrate these items into my life. I have never felt better! Just turned 35 and feel like I am in the best shape of my life, because I am. Piece & Quiet, Antiques, Collectibles & Nostalgia:

For the past 20+ years of my life I have been saving awesome pieces from the landfill (dumps), repurposing old goods and create a means for people to buy recycled goods. Over the past 5 years I have completed my studies at the Asheford Institute of Antiques,  opened a brick and mortar second-hand store (called Piece & Quiet), which I closed just before the Covid-19 pandemic so it now resides as an online facebook: (https://www.facebook.com/PieceandQuiet) local spot for antique & vintage lovers to hang out. I shared my pieces, restoration projects and passions. Some of the most stunning and unique treasures to me are the ones that have previously belonged to someone else’s history and tell a story.

After spending countless hours talking about the things I discover in my travels, I wanted to create a quality online resource for people seeking information about all things antique and vintage. This blog has been running since 2014 and has over 200 posts for you to read. My love of things of the past came at a young age after spending countless hours antique & vintage household item hunting with my Father. I quickly started to appreciate the rarity of the objects I found, interesting aesthetics and the story behind where they derived from. I have a passion to uncover timeless pieces and enjoy re-purposing them to give them new life.

It is about healthy living, the sentimental value and good feelings.

Hope you enjoy this blog!

Sincerely,

~J

The Gift of Time

ID-1008385

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.- Steve Jobs

Dear Friends New & Old,

For those of you that do not know me on a personal level or are a first time visitor to this blog, I want to welcome you and tell you what you have missed.

This past year I decided to move from my downtown apartment to a place in the country to pursue my dream of antiquing and working with vintage items. I really wanted a garage, truck and some lawn therefore living in the heart of the city was not something I could swing anymore. I had a plan to retire (when 55+) to the countryside and the plan happened sooner than anticipated for a multi-tude of reasons.

I started this blog earlier this year in the hopes of sharing everything I know about the world of antiques, vintage & second hand items. There are a few reasons why this hobby has really become an integral part of my life, it is because:

these objects;

1. Encapsulate a moment in time and they move us with their stories of the past. History is such an important part of who we are and where we come from. It triggers our sense of imagination.

these objects;

2. Are long-lasting and can be shared for a lifetime or more. Things were made so well back in the day and were [or are] simply breathtaking. Passing things down from generation to generation should not be [in my mind] a thing of the past.

these objects;

3. Have so many layers which define their importance – who owned it, where it sat, what it once did [or does] and when it was created. So much criteria to classify by. The more you can learn about something the more interesting it becomes.

For those of you that do know me on a personal level I am sure you would agree that I have had one [or two years] full of hardship and change. I can openly say all these things have made me move more quickly towards my dreams and aspirations. After seeing so much happen over the past year I have decided not to wait to do the things I love and planned to do later in life.

I have decided to put my focus on becoming a certified professional-level appraiser of antiques and collectibles by age 30…let the adventures begin!

Join me in the coming year and learn more about the in’s and out’s and don’t miss a beat in the world of vintage & antique.

Commencing in January 2015 I will be starting my journey to become an appraiser. Wish me luck!

101!

My friends captured me for a birthday weekend away in Montreal last November. This photo was taken after a long day of visiting antique shops between Ottawa-Montreal hence the big smile on my face.

Once upon a time there was a girl, she dreamed of one day owning her very own antique shop. Every weekend she would drive to a new small town and marvel at antique establishments while at times thinking to herself, I would do things differently. I would make things a little more about the story behind the piece, make the visit more about the experience and put only one-of-a-kind items on my store shelves.

Over many months she wrote a business plan, purchased a place she could get down to business in [also known as a place to refinish and store her antiques & vintage finds] and started this blog in which you may of only landed on today.

I wanted to share this evening that this is my #101 post. Though I do not have my own store yet, I still have plenty of ideas and plenty of stories to send your way.

I am still pushing towards having my own business on this topic [Antiques & Vintage] whether it be store front or online. Time to keep chugging forward.

Before I head off for the night in lieu of this special post day I thought I would shoot you some quick links to my Top 5 favourite articles to this present day:

Over the past few years my heart has also become invested in not only home décor but clothing and accessoires as well. My home was fitted with all the gems I would come across and a true reflection of me for many years now it was only natural that my style would follow the same pattern. My closet is its own fashion statement representative of years gone by.

It is about the chase, the sentimental value and the feeling.

After spending many hours talking about the things I discover I wanted to create a quality online resource for people seeking information about all things antique and vintage. Please visit my Site Mission for more on what you can expect to find here.

I am 34.5 years old so did grow up with all the items I chat about. This hobby is a continuous learning process for me and will be forever. I one day (soon) hope to open my very own Antique and Vintage shop in a bustling country town.

Currently I am writing out of Ottawa, Ontario Canada so you will see upcoming events and news relating to the area/surrounding area. With this being said I plan on providing a wider scope (location) of event details.

Community is very important to me so if you love antiques and vintage items as much as I do you are in the right place.

Stay tuned,

Jewelz (Julia)
